INSTRUCTIONS FOR COMPLETING THE PRE-ADMISSION PROCESS

You will receive a text and/or email with a link to complete your pre-admission process. Please click the link to begin this process. We will Email pre-op instructions specific to your health and procedure once we review your information.

-Follow the instructions received from your surgeon or their office (CALL your surgeon’s office if you have not received instructions from them).

*If you are on aspirin or a blood thinner Brilinta (ticagrelor), Coumadin (warfarin), Effient (prasugrel), Eliquis (apixaban), Pletal (cilostazol), Plavix (clopidogrel), Pradaxa (dabigatran), Xarelto (rivaroxaban) be sure to obtain specific instructions from your doctor prior to surgery*

You will receive a phone call THE AFTERNOON PRIOR with a FINAL arrival time to the center.

-Don’t smoke, drink alcohol, take herbal supplements, or use illegal drugs (including marijuana) at least 24 hours prior to surgery.

Pre-Operative Instructions for Patients

-STOP FOOD/SOLIDS AFTER MIDNIGHT THE NIGHT PRIOR TO SURGERY. You may consume CLEAR LIQUIDS until 2 hours prior to your arrival.

 

*For Colonoscopy patients: Follow the colon prep instructions from your GI doctor. CALL YOUR GI DOCTOR IF YOU DO NOT HAVE COLON PREP INSTRUCTIONS.

**You will be on clear liquids the day before. No solids are allowed** You may consume clear liquids until 2 HOURS PRIOR TO ARRIVAL at the surgery center.

*For patients on a GLP-1 medication such as Mounjaro or Zepbound (tirzepatide); Ozempic/ Rybelsus/Wegovy (semaglutide); Trulicity (dulaglutide); Saxenda or Victoza (Liraglutide)

STOP injections AT LEAST ONE WEEK PRIOR to surgery (PILL forms stop at least one day prior to surgery). IN ADDITION, YOU WILL NEED TO START A CLEAR LIQUID DIET 24 HOURS PRIOR TO SURGERY. NO SOLIDS ALLOWED. You may consume clear liquids until 2 HOURS PRIOR TO ARRIVAL at the surgery center.

CLEAR LIQUIDS LIST:

(Colonoscopy patients are to avoid Red and Purple liquids)

  • Water
  • Energy drinks like Gatorade/Powerade
  • Soda pop
  • Pedialyte
  • Popsicles (NO cream popsicles)
  • Apple juice, white grape juice, cranberry juice
  • Jello
  • Plain broths (NO soups, broths only)
  • Black Coffee/Tea (NO cream or milk)

 

ABSOLUTLEY NO CLEAR LIQUIDS 2 HOURS PRIOR TO ARRIVING AT THE SURGERY CENTER (THIS INCLUDES WATER)

**MEDICATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR DAY OF PROCEDURE**

TAKE: blood pressure, heart, seizure, asthma, pain, anxiety, depression, and heartburn medications with sips of water.

DO NOT TAKE: diabetes pills or insulin the morning of your procedure. Do not take medications ending in -pril or -tan the morning of your procedure.

-Remove ALL jewelry before coming into the center. This includes wedding rings/bands and piercings. If you are wearing jewelry that can’t be removed your procedure may be cancelled.

-Do not wear lotions, powders, perfumes, or colognes…deodorant is OK.

-We recommend that you wear comfortable clothing.

If you are having a joint replacement, be sure to bring any orthopedic aids (slings, immobilizers, crutches, walkers…) that were prescribed for you.

-Bring a photo ID, your insurance card, and (if applicable) form of payment.

-Make arrangements for childcare at home.

**A responsible adult must accompany you to the surgery center and MUST REMAIN at the center during your entire stay. NO Uber/Cab/Lyft drivers are allowed.

-You will need someone to stay with you for 24 hours afterwards. In addition, don’t drive a car, drink alcohol, or sign legal papers for 24 hours afterwards.

*Females 52 years of age and younger: A urine specimen may be needed the morning of arrival. Please see a staff member before using the restroom*

If you are feeling ill or have symptoms (cough, fever, body aches, etc..) call your doctor’s office to reschedule.
